Analysis of A Columnist: Week 12
The college cheating scandal was so massive it briefly bumped Donald Trump from the “Breaking News”.
Leonard Pitts Jr., a columnist from the Miami Herald, who is an award winner of the Pulitzer Prize.
His topics range from terrorist attacks to even the famous Dr. Martin Luther King. Despite Pitts huge variance of topics, the college admissions scam caught my eye.
His theme is moral issues.
Pitts felt betrayed because colleges were allowing people to be admitted to their college campus because they had money.
It was not the money that granted Pitts admissions to the University of Southern California rather it was the spark of determination to succeed in his studies.
To make his point well-known, he speaks about people who are jailed because they cannot afford justice, hungry because they cannot afford food, and dead because they cannot afford health.
With all this in mind, this is the sad reality of the harsh battle between money or morals.
Pitts did an excellent job discussing the college scam by comparing other life situations and even speaking out about how much work he put into his studies to get into a prestigious school without “paying” his way through.
As I am sure many college students would be angered at the lack of effort someone can put into college, end up dropping out, and waste money from scholarships/parents.
This is the reason why we have ACT/SAT scores, and it’s okay if your not intelligent enough.
Find your own successes, don’t pay your way through it.

Agreed Amanda. Some of us have had to work our butts off to get scholarships because we can’t afford to go to school otherwise. It sucks that money can “trump” morals in many situations. Maybe us Nebraskans get fed up with it because we value our morals over money any day.
